Naan (indian flat bread)

 Naan (Indian Flat bread)

Naan is usually baked in a tandoor or clay oven, however in today's world it is hard to come across in modern households. It is the most popular of indian breads and should be served immediately. It can  be served with any meat or vegetarian dishes..mmm...so good!

Ingredients
(makes 6-8 depending on how big/small you want them to be)

  • 2 tsp dry yeast
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 4 tbsp warm milk
  • 4 cups flour plus more for rolling out/dusting
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup milk or 150ml
  • 2/3 cup yoghurt (low fat) 150ml
  • 1 egg slightly beaten
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
 Method
Mix the yeast, 4tbsp of warm milk and the sugar in a bowl. Leave to become frothy. It should look like this.
In another bowl, sift the flour, baking powder and salt.
Make a well, and fold in the yeast, milk, yoghurt, egg and oil
Knead the dough well, and keep in a warm place until the dough doubles in size.
I let my dough rest for 2 hours and it was super soft and amazing! if you don't have a lot of time on your hands 30minutes - 1hour should be enough.

Begin by sectioning the dough into balls, then roll out the dough into your desired shape, usually naans are oblong in shape, but I prefer mine round
You can either bake these in an oven preheated at 200 degrees C for 10-15 minutes or you can do what I did and just put them on a hot old fashioned flat griddle also known as a tawa pan.

With the flat griddle on medium heat, Just use some butter to lightly grease the pan and add the naan round to it.

So basically thats what you get :) looks delicious right?? yumm!!

so heres the complete recipe
